An article penned by the staff at Reuters brings up several key points in the consideration of MOOCs and their value for online learners. Perhaps one of the most important of these contentions regards credentials earned by students completing these courses and whether or not potential employers regard these certificates with any esteem. Whereas degrees earned online are starting to be looked at as being on par with the traditional methods of earning credentials, it remains to be seen how completion of MOOCs will be viewed by employers. It is clear, however, that online and distance learning remains an extremely popular option for those who do not have the time to devote to more traditional methods of gaining education and that the field will continue to grow in the future.
