On March 12th, 2019, the largest case of college admissions fraud in US history was the subject of a federal criminal indictment involving 50 individuals. A college prep organization used bribes, cheating and fraud to improve student ACT/SAT test scores and secure athletic scholarships to gain an unfair advantage for admissions to select prestigious universities.

ProctorU is saddened at the impact the actions of these individuals may have on eroding public trust in our higher education system and its admissions process. It is time that the policies and standards surrounding admissions exams and practices better reflect the security and rigor that technology now makes possible. The methods used by these individuals are not new or unique and are not limited to exploitation by the wealthy.

Since its inception in 2008, ProctorU has been at the forefront of online exam security and remains committed to using the latest technology to protect academic integrity and maintain the highest standard of fairness for every student and exam we proctor.

As the market leader in online exam security and identity verification, ProctorU is an active member in a number of higher education and professional testing standard setting committees to ensure that the highest quality in proctoring best practices are supported and enforced. We work closely with organizations like the National Collegiate Testing Association (NCTA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the Association of Test Publishers (ATP), and the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE) to advance guidelines for exam security and online proctoring.
