Cuyahoga Community College celebrates National Distance Learning Week

Published: October 18, 2012 | Category: ProctorU Partners

ProctorU partner institution Cuyahoga Community College is participating in National Distance Learning Week next month.

The college’s celebration is centered on two emerging elements of distance education – eduGaming and mLearning.  EduGaming is the use of games and game mechanics to make learning more engaging, contextualized, and motivational for students and faculty alike. mLearning, short for “mobile learning,”  is any sort of learning that uses mobile technologies.

Events will include on-campus gaming on Monday, Nov. 5, and the launch of a virtual scavenger hunt on Tuesday, Nov. 6.  Nov. 5 also marks the beginning of the Free Rice Project. Free Rice is an online quiz game about math, anatomy, literature, art, chemistry, geography and more. For each correct answer a student submits, 10 grains of rice are donated to the United Nations World Food Programme. The Free Rice Competition pits classes against one another in a competition for the high score. The competition runs from Nov. 5 – Dec. 3.
